Today, there is a growing interest in collecting and admiring original artwork that was used as illustrations in books, magazines, posters, blogs, etc. Various museum exhibitions, magazines and art galleries have devoted space to the illustrators of the past.
In the visual art world, Illustrators have sometimes been considered less important in comparison with fine artists and graphic designers, the term "illustrative" sometimes being used as a negative critique. "There are reasons why we chose to be illustrators. We are a breed of creators, problem-solvers, and in general, visually-obsessed people. We enjoy being able to recreate the world we see in our own way, with our own hands. As kids we loved the smell of crayons, the taste of pastels, and the feel of finger-paints as we oozed them across the paper. As adults, we still do. We love the process of watching a canvas be filled with the strokes of our brushes. To us this is power.

Adobe Photoshop, a name of complete graphic package, very well known among the Graphic designers, web designers or post production artists. It is a tool from which a person can make extra-ordinary, creative and good looking design. Now days, this software is very common in the industry and if you are supposed to be graphic designer then you should have knowledge of this particular software as well. Photoshop (photo+shop) means manipulation of photo. In this software you can make photo more appropriate rather than previous. You can edit, manipulate, re-size and so many things which you can think. Besides this, Photoshop is very common software in design industry and therefore, time to time Photoshop also upgrading itself too. From Photoshop first version to Photoshop CS5.5, there is a huge number of changes, up gradation, modification and new tools have been implemented. So here, we are going to discuss such a tool which is called “Smart Object” and going to discuss that how it works.
From Photoshop CS2, we have a new feature which is called ‘Smart Object’. Smart Object is a tool by which you can transform, warp, and re-scale without ruining the original quality of image. For using Smart object go to Layer-Smart object (alt L+S). For example, if we are transforming any image into Photoshop without using smart object and again re-scale it then you see that image lost his original identity, now the image is a little bit blurry, and when you use this image for your Design it stay over the design with their poor quality and may be it bring down quality in printing too but if you use smart object on it then you can retain image's originality even after rescaling or transforming.
You cannot use some image correction like brightness/contrast, level, curve, color balance, hue/saturation etc. directly to a smart object, because there is difference between ‘smart object’ and ‘normal object’. For this you have to double click on the object and you see one dialogue box will appear which means your object will open in another window and whatever changes you will make, after that you have to save your file. If you do this, and close that window, you can see that changes are reflecting in existing file too.
You cannot group while your object is smart object. For this, you have to resterize your image then you can group your object. Otherwise, It won’t be possible for you to put your smart object into group. After converting into resterize layer it is like normal object and now you can do with it like normal object but Be consider then after this you can’t use your object like smart object. So it is highly recommendable that after converting into resterize layer doesn’t change anything in your object.
From Photoshop CS3, We have also a new feature like smart object which is called smart filter. It is also working same as like smart object. For using this you choose your object/image then go to filter-convert for smart filter. After applying this, you can add more filter which you can see in submenu of layer, you can on/off particular filter effect or if don’t like you can also delete as well without loosing original image. For example, it is very useful when you are making any template or special effect.

There are many ways to create all kinds of striking Special Effects using Photoshop. Digital art has been taken to a new level with Photoshop, and with every new version of Adobe Photoshop, the potential to produce even more eye catching images with just a few clicks of a button. With Photoshop, you can instantly create an aged effect, and motion lines, color effects, glow, blur, or make a photograph look like a drawing. Photoshop can also help you create all kinds of cool text effects to a photo and even remove unwanted objects and figures from a scene. The following includes some excellent ways to spice up a dull photograph, create special effects and other ways of taking advantage of photograph.

One of the simplest effects you can use to alter a photo in Photoshop is Colorization. This effect can be found under the image tab, in the Adjustments menu, with hue and saturation sliders. By clicking the small box at the bottom of the dialogue box, you can use to Hue Slider to create a unified color over the whole image. This can be great for creating monotone backgrounds behind a central figure. It can also help wraith trying to match one images color scheme to another. To select an image from a white background and save the shadows underneath it (important for figures in motions, especially those who are jumping), use the luminosity of the image. In order to do this use the magic Lasso and quick mask tools to roughly select the desired areas.

Next use the float command to create a new layer of your selection, leaving the old copy in place below it. You can than save the selection to the channels palette. Than turn off the floated copy and create a new layer by pressing Ctrl+Alt+tilde (~), we can select the luminosity of the image, essentially its brightness. However we wanted to select the shadows, the opposite of brightness. 

Another good effect for creating a dramatic image is turning the image into text. To do this move your selected image to a new layer.Then creates the text that you would like to mask into the image on a text layer. Heavy and bold type styles are best for this, as they provide the greatest amount of image area. This will make the text easier to see and read. Ctrl+Click the type layer to select the area of the type, and then change to the original image layer.

Lighting effects are in a great demand for Photoshop Images. These can be accessed through the filters menu. One very popular lightening effect is the lens flare, which allows the user to create the look of a ball of light on their image. This effect and the spotlight effects can be used to add magical effects, new light sources or other lightening changes to an image.

There are many other tips and tricks that allows photoshop user to make awesome changes to photos and digital art.

Although Photoshop is mainly used for Image editing purpose but its uses are many. It’s not only meant for graphic designers but it is widely used by web designers, animators etc. In this blog I have share my wonderful experience while working on Photoshop Software. You may know some of them, but hopefully not all of them.  This is one of my favorite topic in Photoshop i.e. retouching. Enhancing and Retouching photos in Photoshop is an effective way to "work with what you’ve got”. You can make a photo look more appealing or attractive than before.

There are many tips, tricks, and techniques for improving things like skin tone and imperfections, and enhancing the photo subject’s features. Image retouching can be color correction, photo like Image masking, image re-touching, clipping paths, background cleaning & cloning, sharpening & restoration of color image .In this series on Photoshop retouching we’re going to start out with an important set of tools you’re going to need for retouching models, clone stamp, dodge and burn, masking and adjustment layers. For example The Clone Stamp tool is commonly used to retouch photos, but overusing it can give up awful results.

Then when we’re done with all those, later in the series we’re going to flip them on their head and explore new ways of using these techniques for better results. I have just discussed one of the purpose of Photoshop here, but there are many other uses of Photoshop application.
